Close to 100 current and former staff assembled for the event, which included presentations by University Librarians across the decades (Geoffrey Allen, Imogen Garner and Catherine Clark, with a written message sent by Vicki Williamson, who is now living on the east coast).

Geoffrey Allen entertained the group with tales of the early days of WAIT, describing his interview with inaugural WAIT director Haydn Williams to secure his job (very informal by today’s standards!) and his close involvement in the planning of the first stage of the library building, opened in 1971.

As the photo gallery from the event shows, it was quite an emotional occasion for many of the former staff as they reconnected with their old colleagues during afternoon tea. Tours of the library and of the campus were on offer to those who hadn’t been back to Bentley in some time and staff were able to record their recollections of their library days as part of an oral history project being conducted by the Library.
